    Summer Sizzle and hot lights!

Timing is everything. Whether you are running to the mall or walking into your business for a day of work, timing is everything. Just two weeks ago, I was standing in line shopping at my favorite local Trader Joes and the fellow in front of me at the register and I spoke for a moment, recognizing our affinity to the same decades, and I suggested we get together for lunch before long. He accepted. Within minutes we were on the phone sharing cell phone numbers. He suggested I google him until our get together and I in turn suggested the same.

You wouldn’t believe who this man is. We haven’t had lunch yet, but the timing was succinct. Another moment and we wouldn’t have spoken. This adventure may never turn into lunch, but the random, or was it, meet was enough to set the pace of the day as perfect. Later that day, I ran into Kim Greenwood of the Miss USA pagent and we had fun catching up. Hadn’t seen her since before her 17 year old son was born. Then, the next day, I was coloring and cutting a clients hair the the studio to find out her son is on the same ball team as Kims. Small world after all.

The newest? “Presenting You”. Yes Monday is the first day for the program to begin at the Maryland Farms YMCA, where clients will learn their best side for the camera. The experiences modeling off and on since the age of 4 has more than prepared me, along with the years of motion picture and television work, to help individuals get their best angle for the camera.

School starts back for the faculty. That’s what my wife is saying. Wouldn’t want to be her. Although, it was great to have a couple of months off, wasn’t it Cheryl?

This summer’s delight. Little Edith Catherine Joy was born June 4 and is she something else. Take a look at her recent trip to the beach. Keep your shades on girls.

What a girl will do to get on the beach!

    Ready when you are!

Hollywood Remake + Girl On Fire

They are doing it again. Just when you think it is forgotten, you find someone bringing it back.  A frightening story about the relationship of two sisters and how one is the ugly sister, cruel and selfish, yet, isn’t she the one who  in the end is the heroine?

Fashion is  where the story is retold, and the moment your eyes see the statement, the drama unfolds, as the scene plays out in your mind. The wonder of fashion is in the million nuances one controls in the studio. Colors, lines and shapes, textures – the main ingredients of design.

What have you been dreaming of lately? A new do? That simple dress? Clear gloss? A day in the sun? New shave cream? Better workout routine?

Here’s a recent look into the world of fashion and glam with some models taking it over the edge, as the photographer tells a story anew, from the Golden Days of Cinema, and two of the top actresses of those days. Kathryn Bigelow – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Hearing the news about her recent nomination for an Oscar, I wonder if  The Hurt Lock will win out over Avatar. More than just a curiosity, she co-directed my first motion picture to style hair and makeup on.

Her movies have always been a hit in the film festival ciruit.

Another first for that film: Willem Dafoe, in his first lead  role as a Marlon Brando type biker, set in the 50′s. His career has spanned over three decades. In character for his role in The Loveless.

Something you might find interesting is that we both went to art school then turned to production as our form of art. Congratulations Kathryn.

    Face treatment

    Greening!

What does a 5th grade girl do the night before she graduates? You know it, she gives herself a facial, for one thing. For another, she picks out her wardrobe to wear on the last day of the school year.

    Brides are beautiful

\Yesterday my work took me to the home of a beautiful bride to be in Murfressboro, TN, where we planned to photograph her alongside her chosen fiance. What did I take with me for this event? I took my makeup box, two hair bags, the studio chair and a mirror. Did I mention the string of pearls? Yes, pearls are always good for a bride. Ever wonder how to choose the best pearls? Ask you local jeweler for advice. They will be happy to help.

When Ken, the photographer arrived, we chose the location for the photoshoot. It’s very important as a stylist to look at every detail on a job. Is the background suitable? What does the wardrobe say? Does the subject’s appearance make the intended statement?

Right after I set up my tools, I chose the wardrobe for the bride and groom. They had one look in mind, and when I started talking to them, they were pleased to see I had given a lot of time and consideration about what look would give them what they wanted. Something that would showcase their individual style, and yet make them a beautiful couple. Keeping them in colors that would accentuate their skin tone, we stayed away from strong colors. Instead, we chose shades of grey for them both. A long sleeved T for him. A white camisole  along with a knit V-neck top for her. It’s best to keep white to a minimum when photographing a closeup or head shot because it can interfere with the white balance of the camera metering.

After much discussion over new techniques for working with her eyes, to her delight, I added individual lash clusters to give her eyes a new presence replacing most of her dark upper lid liner. Listen, when you do this, your look can be categorized as natural beauty. Why do you think all the girls in Hollywood use them?

Then, brushing on a pink tinted gloss and accent with a natural tinted lip pencil, she was now ready for any event. Today our focus is the engagement photo. Then to some great restaraunt afterwards. Murfreesboro is noted for it’s tasty choices of places to eat.

Next, her fiance and his look. With some encouragement, he sat in the chair and I snipped a bit of the length at the nape of his neck, touched up some discorolation under his eyes with a bit of highly pigmented HDTV product, texturized his hair with special styling cement and they were both ready.

In front of the camera together, they glowed. Such happiness and excitement, a beauty to behold. The perfect couple. Check back soon because I will be posting images as soon as Ken hands them over.
